Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) has received approval from the Higher Education Council (YÖK) for its Textile and Fashion Design, Archaeology, and Urban Design and Landscape Architecture Departments.  Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) will start accepting students from the Republic of Turkey with the approval of YÖK for the Urban Design and Landscape Architecture Department under the Design Faculty, the Archaeology Department under the Art Faculty, and the Textile and Fashion Design Department.  Along with its 3 approved departments, which provide education focused on art, design, and communication, a total of 16 departments of the University will be listed in the 2023 YKS (Higher Education Entrance Exam) Programs and Quotas Guide. Starting in the year 2020, ARUCAD began offering education in Master's programs in the fields of Art and Architectural Design, and in the 2022-2023 Academic Year, it produced its first graduates. Erbil Arkın and Sevda Orr, graduates of the Fine Arts Master's program of ARUCAD, opened their graduation exhibition at ARUCAD Art Space in Nicosia on June 22nd.  The exhibition features original works by these two Master's students at ARUCAD  selected by the academic jury. On Saturday, June 24th the Vintage & Antique Market, organised by Girne Municipality, took visitors on a journey through time at Girne Ramadan Cemil Square from 15:00 to 20:30 pm. The Vintage & Antique Market, where unique antique pieces were presented to visitors, received great interest from its opening.  At the Market, visitors had the opportunity to see many products that have been forgotten over time, but carrying traces of their respective eras, holding a place in the collective memory of society, in our memories, and passed down to the future.  Accompanied by beautiful music, visitors immortalized this moment. I opted to research an overlooked piece of Cypriot history in the form of a ceramic mural, which once adorned the departure lounge at the old airport. Much has been made of the abandoned Trident jet, which sits forlornly on the tarmac outside the old Cyprus Airways hangar. However, there are other points of interest in relation to the airport. The terminal building, which is now out of bounds due to decay has become a hulking muddle of iron, cement, and wood with only the local wildlife wishing to use its facilities. I was always led to believe that everything inside the airport was meant to be protected by the United Nations. However, further research contradicts this claim. The Theatre Club of Arkin Creative Arts and Design University, (ARUCAD), in collaboration with the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, presented the famous French playwright Moliere's play "The Miser" on Tuesday evening, June 20, at the University. The play, written by the renowned French playwright Moliere in the 17th century and translated by Sabahattin Eyüboğlu, was directed by Associate Professor Dr. Handan Ergiydiren Doğan, the Head of the ARUCAD Department of Modern Dance, and Dr. Güneş Kozal, the Head of the Acting Department.  Associate Professor Dr. Handan Ergiydiren Doğan took charge of the costume design, while Ada Güner, Selin Çolak, Yalın Doğasal, Yükselen Deniz, Doğa Arifoğlu, Özer Karanfiller, Ersan Çıkı, Merve Nisa Aygün, and Alihan Güneş took on roles in the play. As Girne Municipality, we are carrying out a planned fight against mosquitoes, which pose an important risk to public health, throughout all four seasons of the year. However, the increase in the breeding rates of mosquito larvae, especially with the warming of the weather during seasonal transitions, has led to the formation of the highest mosquito population for years experienced throughout the island this year due to delayed rainfalls and the delay in the seasonal weather cycle. As Girne Municipality, in consultation with the relevant units of the central government's Ministry of Health, we have established a control program for the Asian Tiger mosquito, which has been recognized as a new species for our island, and have been implementing it for some time now. World Yoga Day, celebrated globally in all countries, took place in Girne. Led by Jivamukti Yoga Instructor Naile Soyel, the event organized by Girne Municipality was held at Kervansaray Public Beach and approximately 100 people attended both local and international. President Ersin Tatar said that France setting up a military base in the Greek Cypriot administration and the US arming the south Cyprus are both clear violations of Cyprus' founding agreements. Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent, Ersin Tatar said that the Greek Cypriot administration expressed its commitment to the three "establishment, alliance and guarantees" agreements signed by Cyprus, Türkiye, the UK, and Greece in 1960 when the "Republic of Cyprus" was established in order to provide international legitimacy. Approximately 600 people attended the dinner organized by Girne Municipality as part of the Second Spring Programme. The dinner, to which all individuals over the age of 65 residing within the boundaries of the Girne region were invited, was held by the poolside of the Dome Hotel on Wednesday, 14th June. During the evening, Adem and his musical group took the stage when beautiful songs were sung, and the guests enjoyed themselves to their heart's content. The artist Emin Çizenel created a current image of the Turkish Cyprus Art Scene on 15th June 2023 at the Girne Public Library. By Heidi Trautmann….. I would say our internationally recognized artist Emin Çizenel was somehow carrying owls to Athens, or coals to New Castle, when he sat amidst the exclusive circle of teachers and artists, contemporaries and colleagues speaking about the image of the art scene in the Northern part of our island. However, it was an appropriate time to bring to the surface the poor situation of the current local art scene and its development, however, it was for the audience a journey of common memories through the last perhaps 50 years of activities. President Ersin Tatar responded to the latest remarks issued by Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola. President Tatar said, "The Greek Cypriot leadership should realise that their efforts to involve actors other than the UN in the Cyprus issue are futile. Any actor that the Turkish Cypriot side does not consent to cannot be involved in possible processes." Referring to the Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides’s statement at the European Parliament, President Tatar noted that the Greek Cypriot leader had revealed in his speech why the Cyprus issue has remained unresolved for 60 years. "While the Greek Cypriot leader repeats his attitude of disregarding and not treating the Turkish Cypriot People as equal, he also reveals his desperation by calling for pressure on Türkiye through the EU,” Tatar said.
