Ziya Rızkı, the former mayor, member of parliament, commander, man of literature and sports, who made significant contributions to the struggle for existence of the Turkish Cypriot people, was commemorated with ceremonies on the 29th anniversary of his death. The first ceremony, held at 09:30 am in front of the Ziya Rızkı bust at the 20 July Stadium Junction, ended with laying wreaths on the bust and observing a minutes silence. Girne Municipality organised a hygiene training session for employees working in school canteens and kitchens. The hygiene training was attended by all regional schools operating within the borders of the Girne Region.   The training was coordinated by the Health Branch and participants were informed about technical precautions to be taken, basic personal hygiene, food hygiene, possible risks and dangers in the floor production and preparation stages. Girne Municipality Deputy Director and Food Engineer, Naile Soyel, emphasised the importance of applying the hygiene information given to all canteen and kitchen staff in order to protect the health and safety of school children. The splendid 'It Multiplies When Shared' exhibition met with art lovers within the scope of the 100th-anniversary celebrations of the Republic of Türkiye. The winners of the Arkın Creative Arts and Design University (ARUCAD) 4th High School Design Competition received their awards at the ceremony held at the ARUCAD Art Gallery on Tuesday, October 17th. While all the works submitted to the competition, in which 77 students participated, were exhibited, certificates were presented to the winners. By Oz Orman…. The 21st of November marks the 5th anniversary of the passing of legendary Turkish Cypriot footballer, Sevim Ebeoğlu. The boy from Limassol was able to let his football do the talking during the turbulent times that engulfed Cyprus from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. Such was his stature, that he was able to convince his football club president to switch his team’s colours to that of his favourite Turkish team, Fenerbahçe S.K. He also became the first Turkish Cypriot to win the top goal scorer award in Cyprus, whilst playing for the Greek Cypriot side, AEL Limassol. Ebeoğlu, also got to shake hands with the up-and-coming Greek Cypriot leader, Archbishop Makarios, who had questioned AEL officials why there were two Turkish Cypriots in their side. The first course will take place on Monday the 30th of October 2023 starting time 09.30 am until about 11.30 am. This is a basic course that will introduce you to practicing CPR and dealing with the signs and symptoms of stroke, and household injuries including cuts and burns. The name of the square, which has long been known as the Hirondel and Lefkoşa  Roundabout, was named 'Rauf Raif Denktaş Square' with the decision taken at the Girne Municipal Council meeting held yesterday 19th October 2023. In the statement made by Girne Municipality, it was stated that upon the acceptance of the new name of this square, which has been recorded anonymously for a long time, the necessary official procedures will be initiated, and it was also noted that this change will be recorded in the address records and maps with official letters to be sent to the relevant departments as soon as possible. Girne Municipality is implementing a new application on Semih Sancar Street. With the regulation that will be implemented in order to ease the traffic flow, traffic on Semih Sancar Street will move with a variable lane arrangement. According to the statement made by Girne Municipality, street traffic will be used as two lanes in the West-East direction between 20:00 pm and 16:00 pm. Between 16:00 pm and 20:00 pm, it will be changed to double lane use in the East - West direction.  It was stated in the statement that the aim is to increase the number of vehicles using the road by 20% with the controls to be implemented, and it was underlined that the application will be carried out for trial purposes in the first stage. Mayor Murat Şenkul informed the citizens about the new harbour junction recently completed with traffic lights after the Hirondel Junction. The MadMax band are really good friends and they coming from different parts of Germany up to Hannover Airport to start their Flights to TRNC so I'm terribly sorry that we cancelled this important event with a heavy heart because it's a heartfelt project which I want to bring with the support from Alper Cengiz and the Girne Belediyesi to TRNC. I donated in Germany with the fundraising project " Flight tickets for MadMax" who were going to do the "Rock Aid Concert for Earthquake victims" and the money for the flights. Teams Tournament with visitors from the UK held on 5th October 2023. Lou Hobhouse is a well-known Bridge teacher from Somerset and between 2nd – 9th October she organised a Teaching week for 29 players from the UK at the Korineum Golf Resort. We were able to arrange a Teams competition between the UK players and members of the TRNC Monday Korineum Bridge Club. In total 9 teams entered with the Cyprus Teams beating the UK Teams overall. MadMax, one of Germany's well-established rock bands, was affected by the earthquake disaster in Turkey and they are coming to Girne Amphitheater on Saturday, October 14th where a big charity concert has been organized. They have been performing in recent years at various inter-communal events which have been organized in the name of music and friendship. In cooperation with 'The Soulist's Friends Across Borders Project', which made a name for itself with concerts, and Girne Municipality this charity concert, after their last album 'Wings of Time', in South America.  MadMax Group, which returned from its tour and continues its European tour, will be in the lead role of this special concert. Within the scope of 'Girne Arkın Group Fest 23', members of the International Olive Humour Festival Organizing Committee, consisting of representatives of Girne Municipality and the Turkish Cypriot Cartoonists Association, presented the 'Golden Olive Humour Awards' to the people who made significant contributions to the Turkish Cypriot humour culture and world cartoon art. The award ceremony was held in Zeytinlik village, within the scope of the 22nd International Olive Festival and the festival will move to a larger area next year as it continues to grow and receives so many visitors. In his speech before the awards were distributed, Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul emphasized that there were intense cultural and artistic events in the city of Girne for 40 days and said that the festival will continue to grow in the coming years.
