TRNC President makes statement following his meeting with Cuellar
President Ersin Tatar made a statement to the press following his two-hour meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, at the TRNC Presidency.

The President stated that during the meeting, he briefed Cuellar on the history of the Cyprus issue, which has been an international problem for many years, and explained what happened on the island and the injustices suffered by the Turkish Cypriot people.

Tatar emphasised that there are two states in Cyprus and to find a common ground between the parties in Cyprus, the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriots should be confirmed.

The President further stated that efforts to find a solution on a federal basis during the years of negotiations have been in vain, and stressed that the Greek Cypriot side does not want to share the wealth and administration of the island with the Turkish Cypriots on the basis of equality. Tatar also added that the existing sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people must be registered to reach a fair, permanent, and sustainable settlement in Cyprus.
