Fibre-Optic Infrastructure Project For Every TRNC Home
Speaking at the Communication Technologies Summit held for the first time in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı stated that the work on the fibre infrastructure project for every home is continuing rapidly and that this project will be "started" in June with the build-operate-transfer model. Arıklı also stated that a presentation about the fibre project will be made to the Council of Ministers.

At the summit organized by the Cyprus Entrepreneurship and Technology Investment Association (GİTYAD) and the Communication Technologies Cluster (HTK), under the auspices of the Presidency, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Information Technologies Communication Board (BTHK), the contributions of technology companies in the TRNC to the communication technologies and local economy, the use of fibre infrastructure, the importance and cooperation opportunities of TRNC universities with the IT sector were discussed.

Arıklı, who spoke at the opening of the summit attended by President Ersin Tatar, stated that he instructed his colleagues a year ago to work to make the TRNC an IT island.

“We Need 6G”

Stating that TRNC, which had switched to 3G before Turkey, was delayed in switching to 4G, Arıklı stated that studies were also being carried out for 5G. On the other hand, Arıklı said that the world has moved on to 6G studies and said, "We should not miss 6G" and noted that studies for 6G should also begin.

Arıklı said, "Everyone has to believe in our motto of Cyprus, the island of IT" and called on all stakeholders to "Take responsibility for this issue" and emphasized that they are ready to do their part as a state.  Emphasizing the importance of communication and noting that the developments in this field have turned the world into a village, Arıklı said that those who are left behind in communication will also be left behind in economic and political terms. Arıklı thanked everyone who contributed to the summit and stated that he would review the results of the summit.
