
The 21st Orchid Walk, organized by the Cancer Research Foundation (KAV) in collaboration with the CENGO-V Foundation and sponsored by Telsim, will take place on Sunday, April 28th, on the walking trail in Dilekkaya Forest.
At the briefing held at the Telsim building regarding the Orchid Walk, Professor Dr. Mustafa Camgöz, President of the Cancer Research Foundation, and Özge Özbekoğlu, President of the CENGO-V Foundation, along with Ali Karavezirler, Mayor of Değirmenlik - Akıncılar, home of the Dilekkaya Forest, the venue of the event, as well as Fevzi Tanpınar, Deputy General Manager of Telsim, Hasan Çağlar, Deputy General Manager of Dima Discount, and Ali Dervişoğlu, Program Director of Play FM, gave speeches.
Professor Mustafa Camgöz:
At the 21st Orchid Walk briefing, Professor Mustafa Camgöz, President of the Cancer Research Foundation, began his speech by emphasizing the importance of foundations for societies and stating that KAV is the only foundation conducting cancer research in Northern Cyprus. He provided information about the scholarship recipients and their studies nurtured within KAV. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Camgöz also announced the imminent release of a cancer drug developed in collaboration with Imperial College, expressing their commitment to continue the fight against cancer scientifically through the cooperation with CENGO-V Foundation for the last three years and with the donations received from the Orchid Walk for the past 20 years. He continued: "These endeavours cannot be accomplished without support from many people,"
Professor Camgöz expressed gratitude to Telsim, Dima, Girne Con, Play FM, their host the Değirmenlik-Akıncılar Municipality, and volunteers, saying, "We will hold our 21st Orchid Walk this year in collaboration with CENGO-V Foundation, as we have done for years. Özge Özbekoğlu:
Following Professor Camgöz's speech, Özge Özbekoğlu, President of the CENGO-V Foundation, expressed their happiness about conducting the Orchid Walk for the past 3 years in collaboration with KAV and continuing it this year. Özbekoğlu emphasized that the Cancer Research Foundation is the only foundation in the country conducting research on cancer and providing hope through its scientific studies. She stated, "This collaboration aims to be a beacon of hope and a solid foundation for fighting cancer. The donations from the Orchid Walk contribute to scientific research on cancer." Özbekoğlu emphasized, "This project is not about 'me' but about 'us.' Through our collaboration with KAV, we have united our hearts, love, and strength. Ali Karavezirler:
Ali Karavezirler, Mayor of Değirmenlik - Akıncılar, where the Orchid Walk will take place, emphasized the increasing prevalence of cancer in every home. He thanked the Cancer Research Foundation, CENGO-V, and all the sponsors, especially Telsim, for their efforts and support. He stressed the importance of raising awareness about cancer nationwide, saying, "As the Mayor of Değirmenlik - Akıncılar, and generally for the entire country, it is important to show awareness to cancer." Karavezirler concluded his speech by saying, "The 21st Orchid Walk will take place in our village of Dilekkaya on April 28th. As the Municipality of Değirmenlik - Akıncılar, we will be there, leading the way, and we will continue to support this cause every year." Karavezirler also pledged support for planting trees in the region, saying, "We promise to take care of the maintenance of these trees. The important thing is not just planting them but keeping them alive, protecting them, and passing them on to the future."
Fevzi Tanpınar:
Fevzi Tanpınar, Deputy General Manager of Telsim, the main sponsor of the Orchid Walk, expressed their happiness to be part of the Orchid Walk again this year. He expressed hope and excitement for collaborating with two very valuable foundations - KAV, which conducts serious research on cancer, and CENGO-V, which raises awareness about cancer. Tanpınar emphasized the need for everyone to fight against cancer as a society, stating, "The fire should not only burn where it falls; we should not ignore the possibility of it falling on us at any moment. Therefore, we must fight against cancer as a whole society. It is crucial to constantly raise awareness of this issue to the entire population. We must consider the necessity of supporting and standing behind these scientific research efforts." Tanpınar concluded by thanking the Municipality of Değirmenlik - Akıncılar for hosting the 21st Orchid Walk, saying, "Last year, we had a great time in the same area. This year, we will continue to raise awareness about cancer in the same area. Our walk will begin in a carnival atmosphere and end in a carnival atmosphere. Hasan Çağlar:
Hasan Çağlar, Deputy General Manager of Dima, stated in his speech at the Orchid Walk briefing that they have been supporting the Orchid Walk for 21 years as a group and for the last 3 years as Dima. He emphasized the importance of supporting foundations to raise awareness about cancer, saying, "Supporting foundations is crucial for raising awareness about cancer. As a company, we continue to provide all the support we can. On Sunday, April 28th, we, as the Dima family, will be in Dilekkaya."
Ali Dervişoğlu:
Ali Dervişoğlu, owner of Play FM, the media sponsor of the Orchid Walk, and a supporter for the past 10 years, spoke about the importance of social responsibility, saying, "Sustainability in social responsibility is very challenging. We have been supporting the Orchid Walk for 10 years as Play FM. This year is also our 10th anniversary.
