4 World Theatre Day Events Staged in Girne
March 27 World Theatre Day was celebrated with 4 different plays organized by Girne Municipality Theatre Groups.  Contributions came from Folklore and Youth Centre (FOGEM) and Girne Theatre Su.  The events started at 10:00 am in the morning and continued until 23:30 pm at night.  The exciting activities included presentations of plaques and flowers to artists by Girne Municipal Council Members Haşim Yücel, Ayşe Karalıgil, Ali Tektan, Mete Ünal Girgen, Hakan Onurlu, and Girne Municipality Advisor Mustafa İlgen.

The Students' Play

The first of the events started at 09:30 with a parade by the students of 23 April Primary School. Then, as the students of Mustafa Çağatay Primary School and Şht. Hasan Cafer Primary School arrived at Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre, the first play, 'Between Reality and Dream', a children's play, took the stage. The play, performed twice and staged by Girne Municipality Theatre Groups, was watched with interest by the students.

2 Stages, 3 Plays

Subsequently, in the evening at 20:00, Girne Municipality Theatre Groups once again staged 'Shakespeare's Ghost' at Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre. At the same time, Girne American University Spectrum Hall, Folklore and Youth Centre (FOGEM), presented 'Alikko and Caher'. At 22:00, Girne Theatre Su's play 'Pygmalion: A Democratic Musical' met the audience at Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre.

The "I Imagine a More Livable Girne" short story competition, organized for the sixth time this year under the leadership of Girne Municipality, has concluded.  The competition, which is a traditional event for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and held for the sixth time this year, had as its theme "I Imagine a More Livable Girne". The Theatre Groups of Girne Municipality will perform "Shakespeare's Ghost" again, this time in Lefkosa. The play, which has received intense interest from the audience since its first performance, will be staged at Lefkosa Atatürk Cultural Centre on Thursday, April 18th, at 20:30. In the announcement made by the Theatre Groups of Girne Municipality, it was mentioned that art enthusiasts who want to watch the play can obtain their tickets from the website www.kibrisbiletcim.com. Written by Ufuk Aydoğan and directed by Batuhan Oruç, the cast of the play includes Kıvanç Giritli, Ömer Dündar, Fatima Saatova, and Shernaz Yardımcı. The play "Crocodile Fire" will be performed in Girne on 26th and 27th April. The Turkish actress, Hazar Ergüçlü, is in the starring  role. She is famous in Turkey for her part in the series titled "Pearl Drops."  The play is sponsored by Girne Municipality and Birinci Global in collaboration with Kamacı Group, Özmerhan Group, Rocks Hotel, Uptown Hotel, and Girne American University.  The play will be performed at Girne American University Spectrum Hall, starting at 20:00 pm. Girne Municipality, Social Affairs Branch Directorate, has announced that half of the revenue from the play will be donated to the Champion Angels Foundation, and the other half will be donated to Girne Municipality Animal Shelter and Rehabilitation Centre.
