Mrs Şenkul: "A Day To Commemorate The Struggle For Equal Rights"
During the opening speech, Songül Şenkul explained the history of March 8th, emphasizing that this day is a commemoration of women's struggle for equal rights. Şenkul said that women still do not have equal conditions and rights as men in politics, economy, and social life. She highlighted the importance of focusing on women's achievements on this special day and every day, emphasizing the understanding and support of the values that knowledgeable, cultured, and virtuous women contribute to society and the world.
Ms Halis: "We Must Organise To Have Equal Rights and Make Our Voices Heard"
Coordinator Nevin Halis emphasized during her speech that March 8th is a day of equality and rights-seeking for women, noting that women have been marginalized in every area from economics to politics, from social life to art throughout history. Halis stated that throughout art history, women have been seen as aesthetic objects and female artists have not been accepted by male artists. She stressed the need for women to organize in every field, including art, both globally and in our country, to have equal rights and make their voices heard.
The speakers at the symposium were as follows: İsmet Tatar, İnci Kansu, Fatma Özok on "Being a Female Artist." Zehra Şonya on "Stages of Being Woman." Heran Mirillo on "Women, Society, and Art."
