
Martyr Eşref Salih laid to rest 60 years later
Martyr Eşref Salih, who was killed in May 1964, was laid to rest in a military ceremony in the village of Tuzla on Wednesday 26th June 2024..
His remains were identified after excavations conducted by the Committee of Missing Persons (CMP) in Trulli, Larnaca.
The ceremony was attended by President Ersin Tatar, Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre, and some military and civilian officials.
In his speech at the ceremony, President Tatar said “60 years have passed, he is still in our hearts. He was martyred for sake of this territory. He is an innocent person who was martyred during the brutal attacks of the Greek Cypriot -Greek atrocities on the Turkish Cypriot people to annex Cyprus to Greece."
President Tatar said, “The state has fulfilled its responsibility. Although, the process took 60 years, the missing person has been found”.
The President said, “Today, we owe the TRNC, the independent Turkish state, our freedom, our peace here to the martyrs. May his soul rest in peace”.
