Prestigious Award For Conductor İhsan Gürel

Girne Municipality Turkish Classical Music Ensemble Conductor, İhsan Gürel, received the Hakan Çakmak Culture and Art Award for his work titled ‘Mısmıl.’

The winners of the Cyprus Turkish Journalists Union’s (KTGB) traditional ‘Media Achievement and Encouragement Awards’ have been announced. The Award Committee, consisting of Efdal Keser as the chair, Rasıh Reşat, Fehmi Gürdallı, Erten Kasımoğlu, and Metin Ersoy, decided upon Girne Municipality Turkish Classical Music Ensemble Conductor, İhsan Gürel, as the worthy winner of the award for his almanac titled ‘Mısmıl.’  This compilation covers the 25 years of activities of the Ensemble. The KTGB ‘Media Achievement and Encouragement Awards’ will be presented at a reception to be held on Press Day, July 11.

İhsan Gürel recounted that ‘Mısmıl’ went through a long preparation process and that all members of the ensemble contributed to the book.  He said he will receive this award on behalf of the ‘Girne Municipality Turkish Classical Music Ensemble.  The book includes all the concerts given by the Ensemble over 25 years; concert booklets, posters, newspaper clippings, and photos taken related to those concerts. Additionally, the names of all choristers, instrumentalists, and soloists who have contributed to the Ensemble over 25 years are also listed. In the section titled “What We Have Sung,” the book lists over 600 songs performed by the Ensemble so far, along with their names, modes, and composers. The book was published in 2023 by Girne Municipality publications.
