LAÇ Pilot Waste Separation Project
Lapta – Alsancak – Çamlibel Municipality Adds A New Recycling Project
LAÇ Mayor Fırat Ataser emphasized that by separating household waste during collection, not only will there be savings on the transportation of this waste, but the separated materials also have economic value, creating a resource for the municipality. He noted that the team is working diligently on this initiative.
Ataser mentioned that initial steps have already been taken toward waste separation and that in collaboration with regional civil society organizations, including the Karşıyaka Culture and Arts Association, the KARMADAK Foundation, and the municipal company AL-BEL Yatırım Ltd., they had “prepared a project for the European Union which has been approved by the EU.”
He explained that “soon, household waste from 69 (SIXTY-NINE) households located on Sht. Mehmet Salih Mahan Street and Sht. Mustafa Gardana Street in Karşıyaka Village will be separated and collected.” This project will be assessed for public reactions and the impact of the training on the community, as well as to enable data analysis for the development of a larger project.
Ataser outlined their goal to separate and collect household waste from LAÇ Municipality and its affiliated villages, aiming, through this exemplary project, to mitigate the environmental damage caused by household waste, which is a significant issue in the country.
