Prime Minister Ünal Üstel: "I believe that in a very short time, the energy problem of the TRNC will be history"

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel received the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Yasin Ekrem Serim and the accompanying delegation at the Prime Ministry Hall of Honor in Lefkosa.

Undersecretaries of the Prime Ministry Berhan Ongan, Hüseyin Cahitoğlu, Undersecretary of the State Planning Organization Durali Güçlüsoy and President of the Statistical Institute İrfan Tansel were also present at the reception.

According to the statement made by the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel expressed his happiness to meet with the newly appointed Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim.

Pointing out that Serim received his university education in the TRNC, Üstel said, "The TRNC is considered the homeland of our ambassador as well as Turkey. Because he spent his education years here. I would like to thank Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan for appointing such a valuable name as Ambassador to Nicosia."

Emphasizing that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Turkey cannot be separated from each other , Üstel continued:

"The Republic of Turkey, the Motherland, is with us whenever we need it. We are working hard to make our people live in a modern and prosperous country with the resources provided by the Economic and Financial Cooperation Protocols we signed with the Republic of Turkey in order to realize the big projects that our people need. At this point, the role of the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia as a bridge is vital for us in carrying the relations to the highest levels and completing the projects on time. I sincerely believe that with our Ambassador, we will further strengthen the bridges of love that have existed for centuries and conduct our relations with Turkey based on mutual trust and respect."

Emphasizing that they have carried out important works on the completion of projects that have been pending for many years in cooperation with the previous Ambassador Metin Feyzioğlu, Üstel said, "Together with our esteemed Ambassador, we have completed many pending and unfinished projects since 2012. We will work in harmony with our new ambassador and we will not leave any unfinished projects in the country."

Üstel continued as follows:

"In the new period, the issue of energy will be on our agenda. I believe that we will eliminate the energy problem in our country together. Previously, in cooperation with our Motherland, we signed a protocol with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz for the arrival of energy from the Republic of Turkey to our country via cable. The feasibility reports made within the framework of the protocol studies will be completed soon. As soon as the feasibility studies are completed, we will definitely take the necessary steps in accordance with the cooperation agreements we have signed with the Republic of Turkey. I believe that in a very short time, the energy problem in our country will be history."

Stating that political stability is needed for the realization of big projects, Üstel also said that they will continue to provide the service they deserve to the people without disturbing the stability, without leaving the works that have started unfinished, and by completing the unfinished ones.

According to the statement made by the Prime Minister's Office, Turkey's Ambassador to Nicosia Yasin Ekrem Serim also said the following in his speech:

"Thank you very much for your acceptance. The TRNC is the 16th member of the Republic of Turkey.

I am honoured and proud to take office as its ambassador. As you know, you can be sure that I will work with the pride and satisfaction of the duty we have undertaken as someone who has both studied and lived in the TRNC for a certain part of our lives, as well as being aware of its responsibility. You should have no doubt that I and our entire mission and all the institutions of the Republic of Turkey will do more in this regard. As the Republic of Turkey, we will be with the TRNC from now on, just as we have stood by the TRNC before. During my tenure, I will do my best to ensure that the TRNC people deserve and hopefully reach a bright future in every field. On this occasion, we will be happy if we can be instrumental in every action that will contribute to our citizens here and the Turkish Cypriots in every field during my tenure here."
