From Cherry Tree Media, London......
London-based Turkish Cypriot TV Reality personality, actor and film director, Can Somer has recently returned to London after filming scenes on several locations in Northern Cyprus for his "directing" debut feature film "Blood Orange Retribution". Alongside him were the producer and writer, Michael Wearing, cinematographer Nai Sukanant and sound recordist Nick Grant.
Can Somer said: "It's always been my dream to come to Cyprus and make a film so, I incorporated some scenes into my first feature film, which I am directing. The reason why I chose Northern Cyprus is because it is there that are the roots I have come from and because the Island has some beautiful locations. I've always wanted to visit places in Northern Cyprus that I've seen on Netflix, Amazon and even at the cinema. This was the chance to do so."
"Blood Orange Retribution" is a film set in London and in Northern Cyprus. It is a fictional gangster film that focuses on the criminal underworld in London. The main characters, Frank and his right-hand man Sam, are contentedly involved in illegal cocaine dealing activities through their business in North London. Ali and Dervish move into a nearby unit, supposedly to sell oranges.
The plot of Blood Orange Retribution
However it is clear that the oranges are merely a front for other activities. Fearing that Ali's actions might attract unwanted attention from the police Frank tries to destroy Ali's business but this act triggers a gang war involving Kurdish, Turkish Cypriot and English communities. None of the characters and storylines are based on real events or people.

In the film, which is still in production, Can Somer plays the part of Ali and Michael Wearing plays Mickey. Reflecting the storyline, actors are featured from all around the world such as Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Kurdish, English and African. Sandi Boggle, known for shows such as Goggle box on Channel 4, Celebrity Big Brother and lots more, is also playing the part of Gloria in the film. Other well-known actors are being recruited to fill other roles in the film.
The scenes shot in Northern Cyprus include the Rocks Hotel, the mountains above Catalkoy, Maraş, Arapkoy and the Mediterranean itself.

We believe that this is one of the first British crime gangster films to be filmed in Northern Cyprus. Production is due to be completed by the end of October when it will head into the postproduction stages. Our goal is to enter the film into the Cannes Film Festival and to get distribution through a major distribution company. Hopefully we will end up on Netflix or in the cinemas but we have already got access to Amazon Prime. Whilst there is no fixed release date it should be in about a year’s time.
