Tatar proposed a new crossing point to Christodulides


Speaking to reporters upon his return to the Presidential Palace following his meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Christodulides, President Ersin Tatar said that he has proposed the opening of a new crossing point in Akıncılar in addition to ongoing discussions regarding the Haspolat checkpoint.


Tatar emphasized that consultations on these proposals would continue in the coming weeks.


Tatar noted that the meeting stemmed from informal discussions held in New York on October 15, 2024, and highlighted progress on the opening of new crossing points. He explained that discussions regarding the opening of the Haspolat checkpoint had been ongoing for three months through the efforts of special representatives.


He also emphasized the importance of new crossings in alleviating the growing traffic at the Metehan checkpoint, which handles 65% of the traffic across the nine existing crossing points.


President Tatar also highlighted upcoming developments, including a visit by UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo to Cyprus in February and a broader meeting in March, where he plans to hold another discussion with Christodoulides. Tatar reported that 8 million crossings were recorded in 2024, underscoring the significance of such steps in fostering cooperation.

The Theatre Groups of Girne Municipality will perform "Shakespeare's Ghost" again, this time in Lefkosa. The play, which has received intense interest from the audience since its first performance, will be staged at Lefkosa Atatürk Cultural Centre on Thursday, April 18th, at 20:30. The play "Crocodile Fire" will be performed in Girne on 26th and 27th April. The Turkish actress, Hazar Ergüçlü, is in the starring  role. She is famous in Turkey for her part in the series titled "Pearl Drops."  The play is sponsored by Girne Municipality and Birinci Global in collaboration with Kamacı Group, Özmerhan Group, Rocks Hotel, Uptown Hotel, and Girne American University.  The play will be performed at Girne American University Spectrum Hall, starting at 20:00 pm. Girne Municipality, Social Affairs Branch Directorate, has announced that half of the revenue from the play will be donated to the Champion Angels Foundation, and the other half will be donated to Girne Municipality Animal Shelter and Rehabilitation Centre.
