March 27 World Theatre Day was celebrated with 4 different plays organized by Girne Municipality Theatre Groups.  Contributions came from Folklore and Youth Centre (FOGEM) and Girne Theatre Su.  The events started at 10:00 am in the morning and continued until 23:30 pm at night.  The exciting activities included presentations of plaques and flowers to artists by Girne Municipal Council Members Haşim Yücel, Ayşe Karalıgil, Ali Tektan, Mete Ünal Girgen, Hakan Onurlu, and Girne Municipality Advisor Mustafa İlgen. The Students' Play The first of the events started at 09:30 with a parade by the students of 23 April Primary School. Then, as the students of Mustafa Çağatay Primary School and Şht. Hasan Cafer Primary School arrived at Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre, the first play, 'Between Reality and Dream', a children's play, took the stage. Girne Municipality's Turkish Classical Music Community is looking for talented artists who are confident in their voice and musical ear. In the statement made by the Turkish Classical Music Community, it was announced that the interview process for the selection of new choristers has started. Application process While the deadline for application is set as Friday, May 10th, applications can be made by filling out the application form to be obtained from Girne Municipality Culture and Arts Unit. Everyone who applies will attend the interview, which will be held on Monday, May 13th, at 10:00 am at the Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre, with the entry card they will be given. The names of the candidates who are successful in the interview will be hung on the Turkish Classical Music Ensemble bulletin board at the Girne Municipality Chamber Theater on May 24th, 2024. Sadrazamköy-Kayalar Road, which has not been maintained and repaired for a very long time, was repaired in cooperation with the Department of Highways and Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel Municipality. Road improvements Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı said that it will now be more comfortable to travel on the road, which has become an ordeal for the people of the region. The Department of Highways has started work on the Serdarlı-Görneç Road, which has been waiting for maintenance and repair for a long time. The play "Crocodile Fire" will be performed in Girne on 26th and 27th April. The Turkish actress, Hazar Ergüçlü, is in the starring  role. She is famous in Turkey for her part in the series titled "Pearl Drops."  The play is sponsored by Girne Municipality and Birinci Global in collaboration with Kamacı Group, Özmerhan Group, Rocks Hotel, Uptown Hotel, and Girne American University.  The play will be performed at Girne American University Spectrum Hall, starting at 20:00 pm. Girne Municipality, Social Affairs Branch Directorate, has announced that half of the revenue from the play will be donated to the Champion Angels Foundation, and the other half will be donated to Girne Municipality Animal Shelter and Rehabilitation Centre. Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, together with his wife Songül Şenkul, visited the 'Girne 18+ Disabled Rehabilitation Centre' as part of the '21st March World Down Syndrome Awareness Day'. Following the visit, they attended an event, held at Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School, in which students from the 'Girne Under 18 Disabled Rehabilitation Centre' participated. The "I Imagine a More Livable Girne" short story competition, organized for the sixth time this year under the leadership of Girne Municipality, has concluded.  The competition, which is a traditional event for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and held for the sixth time this year, had as its theme "I Imagine a More Livable Girne". The award-winning students received their prizes at a ceremony held at the Girne Municipality Council Meeting Hall, and certificates were presented to all participating students. The ceremony, attended by Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul and competition jury members, lasted approximately 1 hour.  Girne Municipality, Social Affairs Branch Directorate, announced that all the works participating in the competition will be compiled and published as a digital booklet. 7 Schools Participated A total of 37 students from 7 schools participated in the competition. The 'Dörter Famagusta Marathon' is happening in support of the Champion Angels. Gazimağusa Mayor Süleyman Uluçay and his team paid a visit to Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul. The meeting discussed the 'Dörter Famagusta Marathon', which will take place on Sunday, April 7th 2024, under the theme of "Running for Justice" .  All proceeds being donated to the Champion Angels Association. The meeting lasted approximately half an hour.  following which Şenkul and Uluçay, along with the Girne Municipality staff, took a photo in front of the municipal building with their marathon numbers. The 'Transforming Girne Environmental Project', which aims to teach students the principles of 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' popularly abbreviated as '3R', through teachers, has been completed. Initiated by the Girne Municipality Youth Council, the 'Transforming Girne Environmental Project' came to an end with a certificate ceremony held on Friday, March 22nd. Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, project trainers, project coordinators, and school principals attended the ceremony. Girne Municipality volunteer trainers Led by volunteer trainers Vijdan Şengör (Theory) and Irene Raab (Practice), the ongoing project provided training to 54 teachers from 6th to 20th of March in 4 state schools within the Girne Municipality boundaries. Girne Municipality staff visited Lapta Nursing Home and members of the Second Spring program, as part of the Elderly Week, which takes place from March 18th to 24th. The visits, conducted by Mustafa İlgen, Adviser to the Mayor of Girne Municipality, and the personnel of the Social Affairs Department, began at 11:00 in the morning at Lapta Nursing Home and continued to 14:00 with the elderly members of the Second Spring Program. The Greek Cypriot Administration will no longer be able to hand out the so-called "Golden Passport" to anyone for its political and financial interests, because the Greek Cypriot Administration made an important change in December regarding naturalization. From now on, those who will be naturalized will first have to be able to speak, read and write Greek at level B1 according to international foreign language exam criteria. The 'Transforming Girne Environment Project', which aims to teach the principle of 'Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle' (abbreviated as  "3R")  to students through their teachers, will be completed on March 22nd. Training of 51 teachers from 4 state schools within the boundaries of Girne Municipality began on March 6th and will end on March 20th.  Initiated by the Girne Municipality Youth Council, the 'Transforming Girne  Environment Project' will come to an end with a certificate ceremony to be held on Friday, March 22nd.  The training is provided by volunteer trainers Vijdan Şengör (Theory) and Irene Raab (Practice) and covers the topics of 'reuse', 'waste reduction', and 'papermaking'. A collaboration agreement was signed for the 'Girne Bandabuliya Gastronomy House' project, which will be carried out in partnership with the Entrepreneurial Women's Development Cooperative Ltd. and the Labouring Women's Cooperative Ltd. under the leadership of Girne Municipality. The signing ceremony, which took place in front of Girne Bandabuliya on Thursday, March 14th, at 10:00, was attended by Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, President of the Entrepreneurial Women's Development Cooperative Ltd. The Theatre Groups of Girne Municipality will perform "Shakespeare's Ghost" again, this time in Lefkosa. The play, which has received intense interest from the audience since its first performance, will be staged at Lefkosa Atatürk Cultural Centre on Thursday, April 18th, at 20:30. In the announcement made by the Theatre Groups of Girne Municipality, it was mentioned that art enthusiasts who want to watch the play can obtain their tickets from the website www.kibrisbiletcim.com. Written by Ufuk Aydoğan and directed by Batuhan Oruç, the cast of the play includes Kıvanç Giritli, Ömer Dündar, Fatima Saatova, and Shernaz Yardımcı. Barbaros Şansal's one-man show "Burda Olmaz," which was performed at the Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre Building on March 9-10, attracted great attention. Tailor Yamağı, who criticized the current affairs of both Turkey and Northern Cyprus with his sharp tongue and references, received full marks from the audience. The play, which lasted for about 2 hours,  had an unusual interactive format that included the audience.  All proceeds from the play were donated to the Şampiyon Melekleri Yaşatma Derneği (Champion Angels Association). The ceremony for Malya Martyrs took place at the Malya Martyrs Monument in Aydınköy, while those who fell as martyrs in the Baf Resistance were remembered in ceremonies at the Baf Martyrs Monument in Güzelyurt on the 60th anniversary of the resistance. In his speech at the ceremony held at the Baf Martyrs Monument, President Ersin Tatar expressed that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) owed its existence as an independent Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean and the ability to live in freedom and security to the martyrs and their noble struggle. Tatar stated that the government of Makarios, encouraged by the United Nations' decision on March 4, 1964, which recognized the Greek Cypriots as the sole representatives of Cyprus, initiated attacks against Turkish Cypriots in Baf. On the occasion of "International Working Women's Day" and under the leadership of Girne Municipality Social Affairs Department, the symposium titled "Meeting of Producing Women Artists," coordinated by sculptor and art instructor Nevin Halis, was held. The symposium, attended by Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, took place at 10:00 at the Girne Municipality Social Life and Lifelong Learning Centre and continued until 17:00. Throughout the event, female artists brought art pieces to life in the building's courtyard. At the end of the symposium, participants were presented with certificates of appreciation. TRNC President Ersin Tatar attended the 2nd. Global Destination Exchange Forum in the German capital Berlin. Speaking at the conference held at the Solwo Suites on Monday, President Tatar thanked the TCWTF for organising and inviting him as a speaker, where he stated that “the meeting of different cultures through tourism is of great importance, despite the challenges facing humankind”. President Tatar underlined that the “outdated inhuman isolation and restrictions” imposed on Turkish Cypriot people is “continuing in this day and age of fast transportation and communication”.
